About Porto Santo Ferry
Porto Santo is Madeira's sister island, famous for its 9km golden sand beach — a striking contrast to Madeira's rocky coastline. The ferry connection makes it easy to visit for a day trip or longer stay.
The Lobo Marinho ferry operates daily (twice daily in summer) between Funchal port and Porto Santo, with a crossing time of approximately 2 hours 15 minutes. The modern vessel has multiple deck levels, a restaurant, bar, and comfortable seating.
Day trips are popular — departing early morning and returning late afternoon gives you 5-6 hours on the island. This is enough time to enjoy the beach, explore Vila Baleira town, and perhaps rent a bike or take a local tour.
For a more relaxed experience, overnight stays allow you to enjoy the island's therapeutic sand baths, golf course, and peaceful atmosphere. Accommodation ranges from simple guesthouses to resort hotels.
