About Scuba Diving
Madeira's volcanic origins have created a dramatic underwater landscape of caves, arches, and walls that descend into the deep blue Atlantic. Water temperatures remain comfortable year-round (18-24°C), and visibility often exceeds 30 meters, creating excellent diving conditions.
The Garajau Marine Reserve, just east of Funchal, offers some of the Atlantic's best diving with protected sites teeming with life. Massive groupers, manta rays, and even whale sharks have been spotted here. Beyond the reserve, wreck dives, cave systems, and volcanic formations provide variety for all interests.
PADI 5-star dive centers operate throughout the island, offering everything from discover scuba experiences for beginners to technical diving courses. All equipment is provided, and multilingual instructors ensure safety and enjoyment.
